My husband has degenerative disc disease will that cause them not to work and be lazy?

He says he is in pain with lower back pain from two slipped discs, says its too painful to work, and is constantly taking pain medication and is sleeping all day and staying up all night, mind you he is 25 years old. I am confused he has seen the doctor but this doesn't seem normal. we also have 2 kids so we never see him cause he's in bed for 12 hours at a time. or is he just a drug addict? My husband has degenerative disc disease will that cause them not to work and be lazy?
he probably is in pain, but why has he reversed his waking hours like that, thats a bit wierd, coz if he was in that much pain he would be ABLE to stay up all night.

he is probably addicted to pain meds depending on what they are - if they are codiene based that is likely.

what does he do when he is up in the night - watch tv, go out, surf the net, maybe set up a hidden camera in the living room to have a little look - paranoia maybe, but it will give you answers, and they are not that expensive, get a teddy bear cam for babiesMy husband has degenerative disc disease will that cause them not to work and be lazy?
He needs to go ask his doc for a referral to a pain management doc and he needs to go see his orthopedic doc to consider gettting this fixed surgically. Tell him either he gets this checked out thorougly including seeing a pain doc after he sees the ortho do or he has to go back to work. Yes he is in pain but just taking meds and laying around is only making things worse.
First and foremost he needs to see a physician, to treat his slipped disc, probably recommend him for a physical therapy. probably the doctor may suggest a surgery.

staying up late? is uncommon and staying to bed in the morning? sounds to me like an excuse. there some certain techniques a certified therapist can give to your husband like some back exercise. for example back extension exercises. your husband needs to undergo a physical therapy
He may be addicted (pain meds are highly addictive), but that doens't mean his pain isn't real. Chronic pain is a really tough one because people cannot ';see'; that you hurt. There is no wound, no broken bone.

He should probably see a doc that specialized in pain management.
