Can a husband who abused his wife force her to sell the house?

My grans husband was an alcholic and kicked and punched her. The police where called and he was arrested and charged, he was released and was not allowed within so many yards of the house. They are now separated (not divorced) and he is now allowed to do what ever he wants. He has his own house but now he says he may want to move back into the house where my gran stays and if he does it will force my gran to sell the house. His name is on the house and so is my grans, each own half of it. Can she do anything to stop him?Can a husband who abused his wife force her to sell the house?
