a really ood bedtime routine.... some type of ritual like baths/shower, bed time story, etc maybe your husband can read to your son (depending on his age)... other than that, some say chamomile or peppermint tea is relaxing... lots of fresh air and exercise during the day...
oh and make sure that there is NO TV watching or other late night activity going on at the same time as or in the bedroom... if going to bed is more sleeping, then the body will use that as a cue to go to sleep. My husband and son have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. Are they doing enough during the day to burn energy? Sometimes a daily routine can help a child fall asleep like taking a warm bath (brushing teeth, reading bedtime story etc.) to condition the body that it is time to go to bed. Also, make sure not to drink any caffeine close to bedtime or avoid it all together. Maybe the mattress is not comfy enough. A TV in the bedroom can also keep someone from falling asleep and staying asleep especially if they keep it on while they are sleeping. Make the bedroom the most inviting it can possibly be and take out all electronics, computers, radios, TV's etc.
Melatonin It is a natural product. It is what the body makes to help you sleep. The level of melatonin rises at night in the body. Check this out and see if it helps. My 15 year old daughter takes it once in awhile. So it is safe. or it wouldn't be in our household.
Warm milk is a well know cure. But take pleasure in the fact that if you go long enough without sleep you eventually fall asleep against your will.
